This page demonstrates the basic typography styles of the theme, including headings, paragraphs, code formatting, lists, blockquotes, tables and other typographic elements.

HEADING ONE LOOKS LIKE THIS

Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable and appealing when displayed.

Heading Two Looks Like This

The arrangement of type involves selecting typefaces, point size, line length, leading, tracking, and adjusting the space within letters pairs (kerning).

HEADING THREE LOOKS LIKE THIS

The term typography is also applied to the style, arrangement, and appearance of the letters, numbers, and symbols created by the process.

Heading Four Looks Like This

Type design is a closely related craft, sometimes considered part of typography. Most typographers do not design typefaces.

DROP CAP

Adrop cap is the first character of a document or paper that is the largest letter of that page and takes up several lines or sentences of the first paragraph. Below is a basic example of a drop cap. Drop caps should be sparingly used. It is best used just once where the text starts. The attractiveness of drop caps is such that even a single use calls out attention to the text that follows. A bit of care with that first letter and you may just find readability improving.

To add a drop cap, simply wrap the first letter with a span with a drop cap class

<span class="dropcap">C</span>offee...

HIGHLIGHT

There are many cases when you need to draw user’s attention to a specific part of the sentence. Highlighting the text may be the answer. Simply wrap the words you need to be highlighted with the  highlight class:

<span class="highlight">Highlighted text</span>

BLOCKQUOTES

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill was a British statesman who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. Churchill was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer and an artist. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature, and was the first person to be made an honorary citizen of the United States.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.
WINSTON CHURCHILL

Churchill was born into the family of the Dukes of Marlborough, a branch of the Spencer family. His father, Lord Randolph Churchill, was a charismatic politician who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer; his mother, Jennie Jerome, was an American socialite. As a young army officer, he saw action in British India, the Sudan, and the Second Boer War. He gained fame as a war correspondent.

The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.BOB MARLEY

Robert Nesta Marley was a Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter, musician, and guitarist who achieved international fame and acclaim.

Starting out in 1963 with the group The Wailers, he forged a distinctive songwriting and vocal style that would later resonate with audiences worldwide. The Wailers would go on to release some of the earliest reggae records with producer Lee “Scratch” Perry.

After the Wailers disbanded in 1974, Marley pursued a solo career upon his relocation to England that culminated in the release of the album Exodus in 1977, which established his worldwide reputation and produced his status as one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, with sales of more than 75 million records.

A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.
AYN RAND

Ayn Rand was a Russian-born American novelist, philosopher, playwright, and screenwriter. She is known for her two best-selling novels, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, and for developing a philosophical system she called Objectivism. Born and educated in Russia, Rand moved to the United States in 1926. She had a play produced on Broadway in 1935–1936. After two early novels that were initially unsuccessful in America, she achieved fame with her 1943 novel, The Fountainhead.

In 1957, she published her best-known work, the novel Atlas Shrugged. Afterward, she turned to non-fiction to promote her philosophy, publishing her own magazines and releasing several collections of essays until her death in 1982. Rand advocated reason as the only means of acquiring knowledge, and rejected faith and religion.

TABLES

The Seven Summits are composed of each of the highest mountain peaks of each of seven continents. Different lists include slight variations, but generally the same core is maintained. The seven summits depend on the definition used for a continent, in particular where the border of that continent is.

Mount Everest Asia 8 848
Aconcagua South America 6 961
Mount McKinley North America 6 194
Kilimanjaro Africa 5 895
Mount Elbrus Europe 5 642
Mount Vinson Antarctica 4 892
Puncak Jaya Australia 4 884
NAME CONTINENT HEIGHT

The concept Bass and his climbing buddy Frank Wells were pursuing was to be the first to stand atop the highest mountain on each continent. They pursued this goal as they defined it, climbing Aconcagua for South America, Denali for North America, Kilimanjaro for Africa, Elbrus for Europe, Vinson for Antarctica, Kosciuszko for Australia, and finally Everest for Asia.
